Hurricane Beryl Brings Heavy Rain, Strong Winds to Killeen, TX

Killeen, TX - For the second time in a month, a hurricane has brought heavy rain and strong winds to Killeen, Texas. Hurricane Beryl, which was downgraded to a tropical storm earlier this week, made landfall in North Carolina on Thursday morning.

As the storm pushed westward, it brought with it a torrent of rain and strong winds to parts of central Texas, including Killeen.

According to the National Weather Service, Killeen received over 4 inches of rain due to the storm, causing flash flooding in several areas. The heavy rain also led to numerous power outages, with over 10,000 households affected in the Killeen area.

“It’s been a real challenge trying to keep up with the rain,” said Killeen resident, John Smith. “I’ve never seen anything like it. The wind has been howling and the rain has been coming down in sheets. It’s been a real adventure.”

The strong winds also caused damage to several buildings in the area, including a local convenience store.

“It’s a real mess,” said the owner of the convenience store, Maria Rodriguez. “The wind ripped off part of our roof and caused a lot of damage to our windows. We’re lucky to have avoided any major damage, but it’s still a big headache to deal with.”

The storm has also caused significant disruptions to daily life in Killeen. Many schools and businesses were closed on Friday due to the heavy rain and wind.

“This has been a real inconvenience,” said Killeen school district spokesperson, Karen Thompson. “We had to close all of our schools today due to the weather. We’re working hard to get everything back to normal as soon as possible.”

The city of Killeen has set up an emergency operations center to help with the recovery efforts and to provide assistance to those affected by the storm.

“Our priority is the safety and well-being of our residents,” said Killeen Mayor, Scott Cosper. “We’re working hard to get the city back to normal, and we appreciate everyone’s cooperation and patience during this time.”

As the city begins the process of recovery, residents are advised to continue to exercise caution and to stay informed about any further updates on the storm.

“It’s going to take some time to get everything back to normal, but we’re working hard to make that happen,” said Mayor Cosper. “We appreciate everyone’s understanding and cooperation moving forward.”
