Brazoria County, Texas - As Hurricane Beryl makes its way to the west coast of Mexico, KHOU 11 is keeping you ahead of the storm with the latest updates and forecasts.

SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS HURRICANE BERYL’S STRENGTH

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Hurricane Beryl has maintained its strength as a Category 1 hurricane, packing maximum sustained winds of about 80 mph (130 km/h). As of 8:30 pm CDT, the storm’s center was located approximately 250 miles (400 km) east-southeast of Tampico, Mexico.

FLOOD WATCH ISSUED FOR BRAZORIA COUNTY

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flood Watch for Brazoria County, effective from 12 pm CDT to 6 pm CDT. Heavy rain and storm surge from the outer bands of Hurricane Beryl could cause flooding in low-lying areas and along coastal communities.

HURRICANE FORCE WINDS EXPECTED ALONG COAST

While the storm’s eye is expected to remain offshore, hurricane-force winds are still likely to impact coastal areas of Brazoria County. KHOU 11 meteorologists are warning residents to secure outdoor furniture, trash cans, and any other loose items that could become projectiles in strong winds.

STORM SURGE COULD CAUSE COASTAL FLOODING

A storm surge of 3-5 feet (0.9-1.5 meters) is expected along the coast of Brazoria County, particularly during high tide. Residents in low-lying areas are advised to take necessary precautions and move to higher ground if instructed to do so by local authorities.
