Hurricane Beryl: Alabama Bracing for Impact as Tropical Storm Makes Landfall

As of Tuesday morning, a tropical storm warning has been issued for several counties in Alabama as Hurricane Beryl makes its way towards the Gulf Coast. According to the National Weather Service, the storm is expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and rough surf to the region.

Hurricane Beryl, a Category 1 hurricane, made landfall early Tuesday morning in Mexico Beach, Florida, before continuing its journey across the Gulf of Mexico towards Alabama. As of 10am CDT, the storm was located approximately 170 miles south of Mobile, Alabama, with sustained winds of 60 miles per hour and a forward speed of 10 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm warning for several counties in Alabama, including Mobile, Baldwin, and Escambia. Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

Torrential rain and flash flooding are expected to be a major threat, particularly in areas prone to flooding. As much as 10 inches of rain is expected to fall in some areas, causing widespread flooding and power outages.

“We’re expecting heavy rain and strong winds to impact our area, and we want to make sure everyone is prepared,” said Mobile County Emergency Management Director, Benny Jordon. “We’re urging residents to stay indoors and away from windows until the storm passes.”

In addition to the rain and wind, beachgoers should also be aware of extremely rough surf along the Gulf Coast. Waves of up to 10 feet are expected, making it unsafe for swimming or water activities.

Businesses and government offices in affected areas are advised to close until the storm passes, and residents are encouraged to stock up on food, water, and supplies in case they are unable to leave their homes.

The City of Mobile has activated its Emergency Operations Center to monitor the storm and provide assistance to residents in need.

“We’re doing everything we can to prepare for this storm and keep our residents safe,” said Mayor Sandy Stimpson. “Please stay informed and follow all instructions from local authorities.”

Residents in affected areas can track the storm’s progress and receive updates from the National Weather Service or local authorities. Stay safe, Alabama!
